Small, electric and made for the city: Microlino and Mobility are launching a new car-sharing pilot project in Zurich. From mid-July, three Microlinos will be available to Mobility customers at Zurich Oerlikon railway station.
The project explores how shared mobility can become even more space-efficient, practical and sustainable. After all, not every journey needs a large car.
Three Microlinos, two parking spaces and a new idea for the city
Space is precious in cities. Parking is limited, road space is under pressure and the demand for flexible mobility continues to grow. This is exactly where the Microlino and Mobility pilot project comes in.
Three Microlinos, including their charging station, fit into the space of two conventional parking spaces – with room left for a small tree. It is a small detail with a big message: urban mobility can use less space while creating more possibilities.
At just 2.5 metres long, the all-electric Microlino is designed for everyday urban journeys. Whether it is a shopping trip, an appointment across town or a spontaneous outing, it combines the protection of an enclosed vehicle with the efficiency of modern micromobility.
Oerlikon becomes a test lab for the mobility of tomorrow
Zurich Oerlikon station offers the ideal setting for this pilot: it is urban, highly frequented and exceptionally well connected to public transport. It is the perfect place to understand whether compact electric vehicles can become a valuable addition to existing car-sharing services.
For Mobility, the project addresses a key question: how can different mobility needs be met while using as little space and as few resources as possible?
The Microlino is well suited to this task. With a range of up to 228 kilometres, it is ideal for many urban and regional trips, while its compact footprint allows city space to be used far more efficiently.
“Demand for compact electric mobility solutions is growing significantly, especially in urban areas. Together with Mobility, we want to show that the Microlino can be a meaningful addition not only as a private city vehicle, but also in car sharing.”
– Merlin Ouboter, Microlino Co-Founder
Car sharing that fits the city better
Car sharing is no longer simply an alternative to owning a car. It can help use vehicles more efficiently, reduce the need for parking and make cities more liveable.
Mobility already makes an important contribution: on average, one Mobility vehicle replaces 18 privately owned cars. With the Microlino, this model is now being expanded with a particularly compact vehicle category.
The three Microlinos in Oerlikon are therefore more than new vehicles in a fleet. They are a real-world test for a different kind of urban mobility: smaller, lighter and designed around actual everyday needs.
“For us, it is exciting to find out whether Microlinos can be a meaningful addition to our conventional vehicles.”
– Stefan Roschi, Head of Communications & Media at Mobility
A pilot project looking ahead
Over the coming months, Microlino and Mobility will evaluate how the vehicles are used and what customers experience in everyday life. The findings will help determine whether and how Microlinos could become more widely integrated into Mobility’s car-sharing offer.
For us, one thing is clear: the future of mobility does not always need more. It often needs what is right. Vehicles that fit the city. Solutions that conserve resources. And services that give people the freedom to move.
Microlino x Mobility starts in Zurich Oerlikon as a small pilot with significant potential.
