A unique public diplomacy project – powered by Microlino

Swiss @ UNESCO – Diplomacy on Wheels

A unique public diplomacy project showcasing Swiss innovation, design, and sustainability on the international stage. Benedikt Wechsler, the new Permanent Representative of Switzerland to UNESCO, travels across Switzerland and Europe in the iconic Microlino to highlight the connection between culture, mobility, and the future.

Sustainable Mobility Meets Diplomacy

The goal of the project is to represent Swiss values and innovation within the framework of UNESCO, with a strong focus on sustainability. Through his visits to significant World Heritage sites and the official use of the Microlino in Paris, Benedikt Wechsler sends a clear message for responsible mobility and modern diplomacy. The tour also supports Switzerland’s candidacy for the UNESCO World Heritage Committee (2025–2029).

A Vehicle with a Message

At the heart of the journey stands the Microlino – a Swiss electric microcar that combines progress, efficiency, and style. It is more than a vehicle; it is a symbol of a new kind of diplomacy – quiet, visible, and sustainable. With its compact design and zero emissions, it embodies a vision of a future where mobility and responsibility go hand in hand.

Across Switzerland – Following the Traces of World Heritage

The journey began on August 4, 2025, in St. Gallen. Driving the Microlino across Switzerland, Benedikt Wechsler visited spectacular landscapes and iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the Abbey Library of St. Gallen, the Aletsch Glacier, the castles of Bellinzona, and the vineyards of Lavaux, before concluding the stage in Bern at the Federal Palace. “I wanted to show that Swiss innovation doesn’t just happen in laboratories but on the roads – visible, tangible, and electric,” says Benedikt Wechsler.

From Bern to Paris – Diplomacy in Motion

At the end of September 2025, the second stage began: from the Federal Palace in Bern through Neuchâtel, La Chaux-de-Fonds, and Dijon to UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. There, the Microlino became the official diplomatic vehicle with CD plates – a symbol of Swiss design, innovation, and sustainability. “The Microlino became an ambassador on wheels – small in size, big in its message.”

The Microlino – Ambassador on Wheels

In Paris, the Microlino now serves as the official vehicle of the Permanent Representative of Switzerland to UNESCO. With its red special edition and UNESCO logo, it represents a new form of public diplomacy: quiet, visible, and sustainable. The tour covered around 2,000 kilometers, connecting 15 World Heritage sites in Switzerland and France – a moving symbol of Swiss innovation and responsibility.

Everything about the Microlino

Benedikt Wechsler, the newly appointed Permanent Representative of Switzerland to UNESCO, based in Paris, is embarking on a journey to experience the diverse World Heritage sites of our country firsthand. “I want to be an ambassador for each and every site,” says Benedikt Wechsler, explaining his motivation for the tour.

Naturally, he also aims to promote Swiss innovation and expertise in building a sustainable future. His collaboration with the Microlino – the iconic Swiss-made electric microcar – is a fitting and logical partnership in this endeavor.
